My interpretation of the brief

Our brief was to show understanding of continuity editing. To show this me and Lucy firstly watched several full clips from people who were in year 12 last year who had been given the same brief. This helped us to understand fully and interpret exactly what the brief was asking. This also helped us gain our own ideas and to brainstorm them in order for us to create a successful video. We were also told about which camera shots and angles we must use in our filming. These shots were: 180° rule, shot reverse shot, eye-line match and match on action. We were shown two shot YouTube videos to help us understand and find out what these shots were and how to use them effectively.
Video.

After we had been shown these we decided to brainstorm ideas for our short story. We came up with a few ideas which really stood out to us. We tried to focus on what general feeling the video would hold. We couldn't decided if it should be focused on a happy mood or an angry more aggressive mood. We decided to go with a happy theme as people would generally feel more comfortable acting out a happy scene. We also decided it would give a nice better feel to the video. Eventually we decided to go for the theme of 'Exam results.' We decided this as we have been through the receiving of results and knew how we wanted people to act and behave in the filming. 'Exam results' was our chosen theme. We decided to engage our target audience of fellow year 12's with this theme as they can relate to it.

Our idea was 'character 1' would be walking down the corridor with tension building music over the top to engage the audience and build suspense. A mix of long shots, POV shots and close ups are used. They would open the door of a classroom using the eye line match, with a sound over of a creaking door this would be a POV shot. As they closed the door they approach a table with their results laying on there. A teacher sat at the other end. They will sit down and be handed the results. A mixture of POV and medium long shots are used here. As the character opens the results a close up shot is used which focuses on the results. Two lines of speech are swapped between the characters, this uses the shot reverse shot method. The scene ends with the main character leaving the table and walking out of shot.

Next we started to storyboard...
